MEDEIDAE: A Laboratory between Sound and Word
The project was born from the elective encounter between Umberto Maisto and Pasquale Fama. Their partnership was forged through fundamental milestones: from the production of the song “Addó sta Scritto” (2024), performed by Antonella Maisto, to the writing of the lyrics for “Nun è Tradimento” for the cine-concert based on Elvira Notari’s feature film “La Santanotte”. This latter project, curated by Michele Signore in collaboration with the Silent Frame ensemble, has graced prestigious stages such as the Teatro Bolivar in Naples (Elvira 150 Festival) and the Cinema Ritrovato in Bologna.
It is from these sparks that the need for a space of expressive freedom arose: a “Song-Laboratory” distant from passing trends, where notes and words merge in the vein of poetic research. The name itself, Medeidae, stems from the decomposition of the word diomedeidae: a tribute to Baudelaire’s "L'Albatros", a poem symbolizing the eternal contrast between the profound need for spirituality and the dryness of the material world.
The beating heart of Medeidae is experimentation: the song is understood as an alchemical forge. Fama’s lyrics, suspended between dreamlike lyricism and mysticism, find their fulfillment in the symbol of "Three," a number that marks the destiny of the group. With the arrival of Luca Enipeo, Medeidae becomes a “Trio”: his artistic sensitivity blends with Umberto Maisto’s sonic research, creating a weave of "auditory images" capable of supporting a sophisticated linguistic pastiche.
Fama’s style is not a simple exercise in polyglottism, but a “spiritual mechanics” that intertwines Neapolitan, Italian, French, Portuguese, Spanish, and English. Thus, an original “multicultural” song form is born: a mosaic that blends ethnic music, esoteric literature, metaphysics, and poetic inspiration.
While maintaining the form of an essential acoustic ensemble — where voice, classical guitar and portuguese guitar dialogue between the ancient and the modern — Medeidae remains an open workshop. The project expands, when needed, to external collaborations, drawing on the talents of Marco Fazzari (drums), Antonella Maisto (backing vocals), and Marco de Tilla (double bass); their contribution enriches the texture of the arrangements in a perfect balance between technique and intuition.
